Leonardo DiCaprio, Puff Daddy, or Paris Hilton do the American public a real disservice when they show up on people’s television screen and tell the public how important it is to vote and how it is your duty to get out in November. While it is your duty to vote, they fail to mention that it is also, and more importantly, your duty to stay informed about what’s going on. If you don’t stay informed, then your vote is reckless and can hurt our country. It would be equivalent to conservatives going out and saying it is your right and responsibility to own an AR-15, so everyone should go out and get one. The truth is not everyone should own them and everyone that wants one has to do their research and educate themselves on guns in order to use them.

Liberals love to tout about your right to vote and want everyone to participate. They do this not because they care about rights or responsibility, but because they know that they can get by on what sounds nice instead of what the actual problems or solutions are. The truth is if you pay little attention and listen to soundbites on television or the news, instead of the whole picture than you will most definitely vote democrat. They own the media and creep into your psyche if you’re not paying attention. They also paint republicans as racist, sexist, homophobes who are greedy and want all your money. So when they tell you that you are important and you need to get out there, of course you’re going to go and pull the lever for the democratic nominee.

We have two candidates right now that are certainly not the cream of the crop. They both were voted in simply because of name recognition they received through the media. If the public did a better job at researching these candidates, these individuals would have never made it past the primaries.

If the country can ever turn around, it will have to start with our citizens reading on economics, foreign policy, the effects of big government, and healthcare among other things. Too often you’ll hear young people reciting some platitude that has no facts and is entirely based on emotion. They’ll say something along the lines of, “everyone deserves free healthcare or college.” Even though it sounds nice, what are the implications? What taxes get taken out? Will college or healthcare prices go up? How much will it costs the government? Is the government efficient at providing those things? How have other countries fared with such big government’s controlling their healthcare or schooling?

Not doing your due diligence when researching anything is usually disastrous. You absolutely have to do an extensive amount of research for a job interview, picking a spouse, or where to buy your first home. So why is it alright to pick the leader of the free world without the same amount of care? If you heard a couple of nice things about a house and then went out and bought it, that would be insane! You would have to research the neighborhood, the schools, check the foundation and look through it thoroughly before you would make that decision.

I see people on Facebook or twitter that say things that they clearly haven’t researched and I shudder. I shudder because these people possess the same amount of power that I do to pick our leader, yet I can see that they are making no sense. I know if these people did a little bit of reading on the subject they’re advocating for they would most likely believe differently. And when these uninformed people are allowed to pick our leader off faulty assumptions and emotion, I weep for what our country will become!

If they do business with a firm, individual, or business without a contract I think this may apply as well. They are not city employees. I’m jut guessing but it makes sense to me. So far as elected officials go that’s a good question but I don’t think there is any law that can require it be done. If one wants to voluntarily have a test to prove a point then that’s their business.
