Earlier this week, there was a tweet made by an illegal immigrant girl that stated, “Valedictorian, 4.5 GPA, full tuition paid for at UT, 13 cords/medals, nice legs, oh and I’m undocumented.” The message in the tweet was immature, but what really bothered me was the picture of the Mexican flag that followed the message. I could not possibly fathom why this girl would pay homage to Mexico, the country that she left because it doesn’t offer much, and not pay homage to the country that not only provided her with a free high school education but now a free college education and all the opportunities that will follow. Why would she flee Mexico if it were better than the US?
This girl follows the unfortunate leftist indoctrinated line of thinking which is that you can only point out the US and the west’s faults and only point out other society’s virtues.
This line of thinking has always been found among the left. Michael Moore loved to point out how great Cuba’s health care system was (which wasn’t true) but refused to acknowledge how much more the US has contributed in the medical field than Cuba. Bernie Sanders once tweeted “China – not exactly seen as a model when it comes to human rights – provides 14 weeks of paid maternity leave. The US provides zero.” But never once pointed out that China as a one child policy that lead to the deaths of millions of girls. He also never pointed out how much better the west is when it comes to treatment of women compared to the rest of the world.
In a previously written Antimsm article entitled, “Self-Criticism Vs. Self-Hatred,” we discussed the terrible consequences when people like Noam Chomsky constantly blame every evil in the world on the west. However, this piece is meant to discuss why the left only criticizes the US and western values but refuses to ever compliment them and all the good they’ve done for the world.
Any rational unbiased person can clearly see that the west, particularly the United States, is comparatively better than the rest of the world on nearly every front. The truth is, that even with all the vices that the left loves to point out, the US and the west have done more for our citizens and for people all around the world than any other countries or empires have done in all of human history.
In terms of the world, it is only the west that has offered 99% of all the inventions that brought most of the world out of extreme poverty that was experienced by most people starting from the beginning of mankind to the middle of the 1800’s. It is only the west, particularly the United States, that has fought on behalf of other countries to stop their people from being taken over by evil dictatorships (Korean war, Vietnam war, Gulf War, WW1 and WW2). It is only the Western nations of today that donate to poorer countries and try and take responsibility for any past harm that we caused.
In terms of treatment of our own citizens, no other places ever have provided the freedom and happiness that is provided in the west. Nowhere else do you have the freedom, the equality of women and minorities, and the ability to do an say what you want, like you do here. Nowhere else can you rise from the lowest economic class to the highest within a few short years. No other systems have essentially eliminated starvation like the west has. It’s quite easy to see why people from all over the world want to come to the west, particularly the United States, and that is because our culture is better.
However, knowing all this, the left has a serious issue. If everyone knows the west is better, then why would anyone want to replace the culture and system, that has led to so much good, with socialism? If someone rationally looks around the world and throughout history, they’ll realize that despite some of the flaws within capitalistic free markets and western culture, it is still the best system that the world has ever known.
So, in order to convince people to want to deviate from this wonderful system, progressives have to create a false narrative. They will make you believe that all countries are equal and each country has some good and bad things about them. This is so they can more easily convince people deviate to hating the US and wanting to overthrow its current values.
The only way that they can convince people that the west is no better than Saudia Arabia or China is to constantly point out everything that the US has done wrong and to only point out what other countries have done well (Among Islamic cultures, they really have to dig deep). They point out how evil US slavery was, but refuse to talk about the Islamic slave trade that still goes on today. Or they’ll talk about how the US is evil for building a wall with Mexico but fail to mention that Mexico built a southern wall to keep out illegal immigrants as well.
This is how leftist can honestly say that the terrorist on 9/11, who want the entire world to be rule by an oppressive theocracy, are equivalent to the founding fathers, who wanted to free people from tyranny.
If the left pointed how truly awful women are treated in Islamic and communist countries, then women here wouldn’t want to fight the west’s system. They might disagree with some policies, but you wouldn’t see feminist shouting for a complete overhaul of the very system and culture that brought that the equality that no other culture our country has provided for women. Also, if the left pointed out how truly awful Cuba actually is then people wouldn’t want to change, because the fear would be that we could end up like them.
It is only through false narratives that you can convince free people that are richer and better off than 99.9% of people that have ever lived that they are being mistreated by the system that brought them their lifestyle.
It is up to people who know the truth to continually point out the US virtues and point out the flaws of the rest of the world. If you can show people the true history of how most people lived and live currently, then maybe they will be a little more hesitant to want to overthrow the very culture and system that allowed them to escape the lifestyle that most of humanity has had to live.
